Name: Jake DeIaco
Position: Owner/General manager
Specialties: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/ Strength Training
Jake is the founding owner and general manager of Bay Area Boxing. Jake managed/operated our Belmont location for the first 5 years (2010-2015) and then went on to run presale and grand opening for our east bay location (Bay MMA And Fitness).
Jake is currently a Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Brian Fernandez (Ralph Gracie black belt) and has 11+ years’ experience in the grappling arts and fitness management. Jake currently teaching the CrossTrain classes and kids Jiu-Jitsu classes. You will see Jake at the front desk weekdays and is here to help with all your fight and fitness goals!

Name: Jake Tipton
Position: Weekend General Manager
Jake started training at Bay Area Boxing in 2010. First with Mauy Thai and then eventually Brazilian Jiujitsu where he really settled into his own. With a focus on movement and high intensity interval training, Jake will push you hard and into the deep waters of training in his BayFit Kickboxing classes. Also being our beginner jiujitsu coach, Jake will help you achieve your goals and accomplish tasks you did not think you could before. Be sure to keep a look out for his classes on the schedule or find him at the front desk.
Head Coaches
Name: Brian Fernandez
Position: Head Jiu-Jitsu coach
Brian was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and has been training martial arts for the last 20+ years. In 1994, Brian Received a black belt in Judo from Willy Cahill. After many years of training and competition Brian added a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu to his resume under Ralph Gracie in 2007. Now retired from competition, Brian looks to further his love of BJJ as the head instructor at Bay Area Boxing. His classes are 1 ½ hours long and consist of BJJ warm ups, technique and full contact sparring. Being a black belt in Jiu Jitsu Brian can belt our students up to his ranking.

Name: Phillip Mendoza
Position: Head Muay Thai Coach
Phillip started his martial arts training at a young age before going on to participate in other sports throughout his youth. He eventually started to train in boxing during his teenage years, but his love for martial arts led him to start formally training and competing in Muay Thai in 2010.
During his years training he developed a passion for teaching and sharing his knowledge with others. He has a keen eye for technique and a focus on the fundamentals, believing that developing proper fundamentals in any skill or sport, is the most important aspect of improving. Phillip looks forward to using his knowledge of training and Muay Thai to help people live a healthier life, learn self defense, and have a good time doing it.

Name: Alexey Bulankov
Position: Head Boxing Coach
Alexey is a USA-Boxing certified coach and a competitive Boxer. His classes focus on overall athleticism emphasizing technique. Alexey focuses on the strategic and tactical aspects of boxing footwork and ring generalship. His background is soviet-style-boxing training methodology and will give you an edge in becoming an intelligent, well rounded and well-conditioned boxer.

Name: Victor Chen
Position: Muay Thai Coach
Victor Chen passion for life has always been involved with the world of martial arts.
Whether coaching students about martial arts philosophy or creating a movie fight scene for the camera, Victor learned to appreciate the nuances of quality over quantity through years of trial and error.
His martial arts and fitness training started at the young age of 8 years old with Karate, Ballet, power lifting and body building all while becoming a fitness trainer to finding the functionality of strength in combat.
Victors “hardcore” training started in 1993 with the early beginnings of Jiu-Jitsu. Mr. Chen always appreciated the philosophical and educational side of martial arts. This led to coaching and being a training partner for competitors who became champions in organizations such as Strikeforce and the UFC.
From grappling, Jiu-Jitsu, NHB, to one day transitioning back to his roots of “stand up defense” Mr. Chen dove deep into Muay Thai and fell in love with the “Art of Eight Limbs”.
From 2009 Victor trained in Thailand at the world renowned Sasiprapa Gym for 6 plus years. To this day Coach Vick still visit and trains with world class gyms in NYC, Amsterdam, and the UK.

Name: Justin Davis
Position: BayFit Kickboxing coach
Justin started training Muay Thai as a young man under Kru Sam of World Team USA in San Francisco. Justin trained, taught and fought under the World Team flag for 8 years. We welcome Justin as our Head Muay Thai coach and cornerman for our Muay Thai fight team. Justin specializes in getting men and women ready for their fights whether in the ring or cage. Outside of fight training and competition preparation Mr. Davis also specializes in client body transformation and leads our 6:15am BayFit Kickboxing classes Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Just carries with him an intense yet friendly coaching style with an emphasis on muscle toning and weight loss. Martial arts changed Justin’s lifestyle for the better and his life goal now is to share that passion with the world. Come check out Justin’s class for a fun, technically, proficient full body kickboxing workout or try your hand in one of his Muay Thai fight team classes.

We welcome Mo as one of our kickboxing coaches and an active member of our Muay Thai competition team. Mr. Khan has been training for 10 plus years and looks to continue his competition career with us at Bay Area Boxing. Look out for Mo’s classes and upcoming fight dates!

Name: Israel Rodriguez
Position: BayFit Boxing/Kickboxing coach
Israel has over 7 years of boxing/kickboxing/MMA experience with two amateur wins in MMA. He has trained all over California, from the East Bay to So-Cal and now here in the Peninsula. With his unique style in boxing and kickboxing and restless grinding wrestling Izzy should have a bright future in MMA. Come down and try his high-energy class, he will be there with you every possible moment to make sure you have the motivation you need to get through your workout! Izzy teaches every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 6:15 am and 9am. Saturday at 9am and Sunday at 11am.

Troy has been studying Muay Thai since 2013 and has grown a tremendous passion for the art. As a coach Troy will push you to perform at your best. Troy specializes in smooth rhythm and flow with an emphasis on combos and positioning. We welcome Troy as one of our BayFit Kickboxing conditioning coaches and an active member of our Muay Thai competition team. Troy has now transitioned into adding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu into his game and looks to make his MMA debut in the near future.
